A recent report published by McKinsey Global Institute states that when data is made easily accessible to the person closest to the business challenge, data-driven organizations are:
- 23 times more likely to acquire customers
- 6 times as likely to retain those customers
- 19 times as likely to be profitable
To enable an organization to become more data literate, users must be able to find and use the data that is of interest to them, and this starts with a comprehensive search engine. Opening up the corporate data crown jewels to a broader range of users should not mean sacrificing data security. Governance policies that determine which users can access which data sets along with the attribute they can see in search results should be at the center of search capabilities and the underlying results.
Discovering the data is one thing; trusting it is something else. Data can only be meaningful in informing business decisions if the data is deemed trustworthy.
