Unifi for IT professionals

Keeping Big Data from becoming a Big Pain.

With the Unifi platform, IT can shift data integration responsibilities to your Business Analysts while maintaining control of the underlying environment, access to data, and visibility of attributes. Remember, you control the system so it doesn’t get overloaded with overzealous Business Analysts.

Connect to all your data sources

Unifi offers the widest range of native data source connectors. From Netsuite to social media data, Unifi provides a heterogeneous connector library. Adding a data source is a breeze – just point to the data source and add access credentials. With Unifi user management, you decide who’s allowed to add data sources to the platform. You can even select an external process or pre-cleaned data set with Unifi.

User management
Authorize users and revoke access – remember, you’re in control. Unifi supports LDAP and ADT to facilitate access. Set up groups, for example: Finance, Marketing, Manufacturing, Data Science, and then select users into each group and which data sets each group can access.

Data authorization
Financial data, healthcare data, PII data – with Unifi you can even select which data set attributes each user can see. This way YOU control privacy and policies, just the way it should be.

Resource management
Another critical part of access is the management of the Hadoop environment. Clients tell us that competitors’ tools use unintuitive interface metaphors to make selections that overload the environment and render it useless to other users. Unifi augments the Yarn resource management tools to allow you to manage the resources and ensure the environment elegantly manages the transform loads. You can even set job priority – Finance calling? Simply drag and drop their job to the top of the list.

Workflow and schedules
When jobs are dependent on other jobs, Unifi lets you set up a workflow schedule to string jobs together. You determine the order and the logic: Job A runs and on success Job B runs, but Job C runs if Job A fails, then you run Job D – you get the idea. And if you run the same jobs weekly, set up a schedule with Unifi. You can even run these schedules remotely by integrating your own scheduling software with our comprehensive API.

Know your lineage
Tracking the results of a job right back to the source data is essential when results are not what you expect, or things go wrong. Unifi’s data lineage and digital sleuthing tools help you uncover those pesky errors quickly and simply. Only Unifi delivers this level of data integration debugging.

Hive or Spark – bring it
Unifi dynamically selects the right Hadoop OS resource based on the type of transform and data sources selected. Need in-memory transform? No problem, Unifi will select what’s appropriate and optimize the transform. Even Spark streaming data is supported by Unifi as part of a transform or scheduled workflow.

How IT can create a more Unified environment.
  • Establish a solid self-service data integration (SSDI) strategy
  • Manage each user by provisioning/rescinding user access to SSDI products
  • Manage and monitor the data source connections used within the SSDI tools through the admin functionality built into the SSDI products
  • Manage and monitor the data integration and processing infrastructure utilized by the SSDI initiative
  • Manage scheduling and monitoring of integration workflows created by the users
  • Manage data governance by defining granular security within the underlying data sources accessed by the users to prevent unauthorized acces
  • Manage and monitor the efficient use of collaboration functionality within SSDI products, such as shared data connections and data assets, in order to avoid siloed use and to foster consistency, reusability, and bring visibility across user
  • Exploit existing managed, centralized data stores as data sources to the SSDI products when relevant
  • Exploit interoperability with other existing data quality, data governance and metadata products
Be the enablers. Be the heroes.

With managed SSDI, in contrast to owning the development of integration workflows, IT is an enabler that supports end-users in developing integration workflows. You give them the power, they wield it as they see fit. With Unifi behind your efforts, you’ll immediately begin enabling:

  • A more intuitive user interface geared towards business users
  • Semantic data catalog of all data sources within the enterprise
  • A more structured view of unstructured content by supporting many multi-structured and unstructured data formats
  • Easier discovery and addition of new data sources in a more agile manner
  • Automated discovery of relationships within data, as well as relationships at the metadata level
  • Overall reduction of operational costs and improvement in end-user productivity through the power of automation
  • Faster delivery of self-service DI in an IT-managed environment while at the same time spotlighting enterprise governance enforcement (rules, encryption, data masking, workload management, granular role-based security on data sets to prevent unauthorized access)
  • Easier configuration and application of data quality rules
  • Processing of data “in place” (rather than moving data to another processing platform) by gleaning an understanding of the data
  • More secure provisioning and exposure of data for consumption by downstream applications
  • Caching of both data and metadata on-demand, leading to improved performance in accessing underlying data sources
  • Exposure of metadata in Unifi platform for consumption by other enterprise tools
  • Aggregation of data on-the-fly, or pre-calculated/persisted aggregations
  • Exploitation of inherent hierarchies within the data
  • Faster export of processed results in native BI tool formats for faster visualization
